ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

Research has proven that physical activity has positive long term and short term effects upon learning and retention. There has been a positive correlation drawn between an increase in overall fitness levels and an increase in academic performance. Physical education and movement is a critical component to both physical and mental health. Instead of approaching it as an extracurricular activity, it should be viewed as an integral part of a child's education.

INTEGRATION

Integration is a central component of a well rounded education. Integrating physical activity into classroom learning provides not only meaningful hands-on activity but an outlet to further infuse a wide array of opportunities to reach a variety of learning styles.

Physical activity helps activate the brain, improve on-task behaviors during instruction time, and it increases the daily in-school physical activity levels.

There is great potential to help influence healthy behaviors in children and promoting positive lifetime choices by integrating physical movement in daily studies.

INTELLECTUAL

Intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. When children utilize their kinetic abilities to navigate their environment they are building neural connections. As neural connections develop the brain becomes more adept at retaining information and procuring a deeper understanding of knowledge acquires.

Intelligence can be fostered by allowing the brain a chance to experience the world through the 5 senses. This enables the brain to improve its functioning and protect against cognitive decline.

Exercise and movement are an essential way for the brain to grow new connections through hand-brain coordination.

ACHIEVEMENT

Achievement is measured in a variety of manners. However, when discussed at an educational level most achievement is measurable by testing. When students are able to participate and interact in physical movement they develop a knowledge of personal achievement that is measurable by goal setting and physical indicators.

While exercising, students learn the limits of their bodies and are able to strengthen their self awareness. Students also learn self-motivation and often develop internal drive when challenged physically.

Achievement through movement is also achieved in a social manner. Many physical activities are best completed either in a team setting or through the encouragement of peers.

ANALYTICAL SKILLS

Analytical skill is the ability to visualize, articulate and apply logical thinking skills to both complex and simple problems. It involves the capability to consider concepts and problems, formulate a plan and solve the problem.

Analytical skills are not learned by being told how to do something but rather learned through trial and error and experience. Students must gain a strong experiential foundation in order to better develop their ability to analyze and evaluate solutions and situations.

Being able to weight the possible outcomes of choices and then making a logical decision as to the correct plan of action is a critical piece of analytical thinking. Being given physical and mental challenges that test a child's ability to adapt help boost analytical skills.
