JOCELYN PARIS, MEd

Jocelyn has taught in a wide variety of settings and has gleaned much knowledge from the various populations she has found herself lucky enough to teach. She holds a Master of Education degree from Northern Arizona University and her BA of Creative Writing from the University of Arizona.

Jocelyn has taught for over 10 years within the public schools, alternative charter schools, the Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind, a Montessori School, and has worked as a consultant for AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health, Physical Recreation, and Dance). She is currently leading the revolution of STEM at a Middle School in the Pacific Northwest, helping to create STEMaliscious lessons and develop STEMsational young minds.

She enjoys the daily challenge of adapting lessons to meet multiple learning styles as well as developing hands-on learning experiences for her students. Jocelyn loves creating interactive lessons that promote self discovery, incorporate movement and embrace fun!

Her true passion lies in science! She watches documentaries and ponders the wonders of nature at every chance she gets! She loves going to work with her 8th graders because she is able to constantly learn  new teaching techniques and life lessons from the kids. Not only does Jocelyn enjoy teaching children but she takes pleasure in educating adults and fellow educators. She has written four CliffsNotes Praxis study guides in order to help prepare future teachers.

In her spare time, she seeks adventure and can often be found climbing a rock face, hiking with her dogs Olive, Newton and Carl, hitting the trails with her camera, hunkering down with a good book, cooking yummy meals, and convincing friends to adventure with her!

ELISABETH STEWARD

Elisabeth has taught in various nontraditional and alternative settings. She believes that learning should be an engaging, active, and hands-on experience for all. She is astonished everyday at how much she learns from her students and welcomes all learning styles for no two children learn the same. She received her BA from St. Michael's College in English Literature with a double minor in Business and Marketing.

Her passion for teaching bloomed during college, when she was assigned to work in a classroom with children with disabilities. After college, she ventured west to accept a position as a corp member for AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corp. During her second year of service, she was selected to be a team leader, and was assigned the role of Program Support Specialist. While in Americorps NCCC she was invited to give a presentation on Experiential Learning at a conference in Dallas, TX.

In her short time on this planet, she has tutored children in Australia, coached Girl Scouts across high ropes course elements, assisted in teaching EMT classes, guided sea kayak trips in bear country Alaska, led students on sensorial night hikes, and taught 5th graders the scientific properties of heat transfer through a yummy treat called ice cream.

In her full time, she is a Bend Firefighter. On her off days she can be found hiking, climbing, kayaking, or exploring the country with her fur baby. Elisabeth shares a love of skiing and the great outdoors with her dad. She believes there is nothing more beautiful than the desert at sunset and finds serenity in yoga, reading, and making crafts.
